When the Recueil de Médecine Vétérinaire was a duel field

A review of several issues of the Recueil de Médecine Vétérinaire published in 1855 and 1856 reveals the virulence of the polemical letters exchanged between two professors of the Alfort Veterinary School (Henri Bouley et Gabriel Colin) when the latter published his Traité de physiologie comparée des animaux domestiques (1854/1855). The reasons and conclusion for this controversy are reviewed and discussed.
